This is an exciting time for Shopify as we expand into new geographies to better support the local and global needs of our merchants.  It's crucial we get this right and data plays a vital role in the process of making the right decisions.
Our Data Scientists work closely with the country teams (product managers, partner managers, UXR, designers, and others) in using data and analytics to inform the decision-making process. Their aim is to successfully expand into different parts of the world, help diverse entrepreneurs succeed on our platform, and enable our current merchants to sell globally.  We are currently looking to grow our data team in Singapore & Amsterdam!

What you'll be doing:

    • The main data scientist for your country teams.  You will leveraging data to help our team make data-informed decisions.
    • Write ETL pipelines using dimensional modelling (Kimball) approach.
    • Define success metrics on product usage, acquisition, retention (to name a few).Use analytics to optimize the team’s efforts; i.e. optimize marketing efforts through understanding marketing acquisition channels.
    • Create dashboards to monitor those success metrics.
    • Use advanced analytics to derive insights (i.e., analysis to understand user behaviour & merchant segmentation) and communicate how the insights impact the business.
    • Give feedback on your peer's work (code, dashboards, analysis).

What we are looking for:

    • Python, Spark, SQL.
    • Strong business acumen.
    • Strong command of statistics, advanced analytics techniques, and experimentation.
    • Experience in influencing business teams in using data, preferably in a SaaS company.
    • Strong communication skills to communicate insights.
    • Deep understanding of either the European or Asian e-commerce market (depending on location)
